Badminton Out & About: Southwest vs Roosevelt 4.18.2019

SOUTHWEST 6, ROOSEVELT 1

Minneapolis Conference leader Southwest, who is in the driver’s seat for the title, added to another to the win column with a 6-1 victory on the road at Roosevelt. The Teddies only win came at third doubles. The only match that went three sets came at second singles where lefty Becca Murphy bounced back from a first set loss to Marike with margins in sets two and three over ten points. The first set at second doubles was the only set to go to extra points.

This crossed two more teams off my list leaving Harding, Eden Prairie (both of whom played today); Hiawatha and Edison.

FIRST SINGLES

Camryn SIMMONS 2, ALICE 0
(21-9, 21-7)

Camryn Simmons had two wins over Alice by margins greater than 10. In most every stat category Simmons had strong advantages. If the rally lasted five strokes or longer Simmons won at a .778 clip. The fast/two stroke or less points Simmons carried by a smaller margin .556. Simmons also ruled the winner category with 26. The Smash count reached double digits at 10, the exact amount Alice had for winners. The one mystery was where one point disappeared to in set two. My count only came to 20 with the evaporation occurring somewhere in a six point run taking the score from 9-5 to 15-5. In both sets Simmons jumped off to a 4-0 start. The margin reached ten in the first set at 13-3; and in the second at 15-5.

Just for comparison sake, yesterday’s Nuhchi Chah vs BeBe Say’s match which lasted two sets lasted five minutes longer than today’s.
