FIRST SINGLES

Xee Lee 2, Wah Chri 0 (21-13, 21-17)

Como Park’s Xee Lee took control of the first set, and had to battle back in the second to get the win over Humboldt’s Wah Chri. After a missed serve to open the match, Lee scored four more for a 5-0 lead. Wah Chri used three straight side outs after that and squeezed a few points off her own serve to close the gap to 8-7. Lee got the bird back on a two stroke clear and then tacked on five more for a 14-7 lead, the last coming on an ace to the right back corner. Lee had 14 winners in the first set with a smash favored four times. Usually the set up on that was a drop on her previous stroke.

It was Chri that got off to the quick start in set three with the first three points. Lee regained the lead on a six stroke run initiated by a two stroke smash. Chri would have three more runs left in the tank, the final one taking her out to a 15-13 lead. Lee used a two stroke clear to start another run of six and she maintained that margin the rest of the way trading side outs.

Both players were working the left side of the opponent throughout the match. Lee took advantage of birds left too juicy in the air with nine smashes, mostly to the right side of the court. Lee also won the fast game—two strokes or less— 18-11.
