DROUGHTS—-AAAA Style

Come March it looks like a state tournament drought will be over. East Ridge is the current #1 team in section 4AAAA. The Raptors have never made the state tournament but have been close several times. Here are the teams that have never been to a state tournament in AAAA. Four of the five are newer schools. Only Park-Cottage Grove has been dry since the 1970s.

Park-Cottage Grove  49 years (1976-77 to current).

Rochester Century  27 years (1998-99 to current)

Lakeville South 20 years (2005-06 to current)

Chanhassen 16 years (2009-10 to current)

East Ridge 16 years (2009-10 to current)

WEEK THAT WAS

UNBEATEN

We are now under double digits. The most shed this past week came in AA with three dropping. One was due to drop when Menahga (still undefeated) pinned a loss on Roseau at the home of the Rams. Fairmont also fell to a team they beat earlier in the year NRHEG.

I have yet to see four of the teams and they all live outside the metro.

Total undefeated left: 7

AAAA: 2  Minnetonka, Rosemount

Leaving the list none

AAA: 0

AA: 2 Menahga; New London-Spicer

Leaving the list Fairmont, Plainview-Elgin-Millville; Roseau

A: 3  Mountain Iron-Buhl; Pine River-Backus; Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s

Leaving the list: Chisholm

STREAKING

There have been a couple of additions sharing the streak leads in AAAA & AA. Both Rochester Mayo and DGF join the club. In A there is a new leader, not because a team fell (in this case undefeated  Mountain Iron-Buhl and Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s) but because NRHEG played a few more games while the leaders did not. NRHEG got revenge on a loss earlier in the year to Fairmont.

AAAA: 11 Minnetonka, Rochester Mayo

AAA: 8 Hill-Murray

AA: 9 New London-Spicer, Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton

A: 10 NRHEG

QUEST FOR…

I was wrong. The week before I erased 11 teams. This week it was 15, 12 in the top 100. The Holiday Tournament week proved to be a big haul. No longer on the list are #11 Cretin-Derham Hall; #20 Monticello; #23 Lakeville South; #31 Proctor; #41 Maranatha; #44 Owatonna; #50 Tartan; #55 Watertown-Mayer; #56 Bemidji; #64 Brainerd; #69 Little Falls; #99 Rock Ridge; #133 St. Anthony; #140 Zimmerman; #221 Grand Rapids

Biggest fish not seen? A new leader #17 Stewartville. Looking at the metro portion of the top 50 there are six. This week will be considerably less than 15 or even 11. Multiple games in one day (like the four from Monticello) just won’t happen again this week.

Just chipping away.

SEEDING THE STATE

Shifts in AAA with Cretin-Derham Hall getting running timed by Wayzata. The Raiders drop to #5 as a result. No movement in AAAA or A.

I would like to note that the bottom (#6, #7, #8) in the bigger classes will be hard pressed to win a game at state.
