ABOUT LAST NIGHT…..MAYER LUTHERAN V BOLD
For the second straight day I charted a Warrior v Crusader battle. The colors were the same. The hosts on both days were Crusaders. But the outcome was flipped on Thursday as #7A Mayer Lutheran withstood a BOLD (receiving votes in the A poll) charge in the second half and then kicked it up a notch to gain a 75-57 victory.
BOLD jumped out in front 5-0 and kept the lead until a steal layup by put ML up 12-10. There would be two more lead changes in the first half with the Crusaders scoring a dozen unanswered points on the way to a 27-16 lead. Ema Flann was out with a lower leg injury for a bit of that time, but ML was extremely effective against the Warriors 2/3 zone zipping balls and getting interior shots with quickness. By half it was 34-22 for the hosts.
ML pushed that advantage to 48-32 in the second half before BOLD abandoned the zone and went man on defense. That defensive switched threw sand in the gears of the Crusader offense. ML was at 55-39 and then for the next ten possessions came up empty. BOLD seized advantage of that with a charge of 9 unanswered points to make it 55-48. ML dodged a bullet when a steal lay up and put back attempt off the ensuing miss would have cut it to five with five minutes remaining. Another key momentum shift came when ML hammered the offensive glass getting four cracks to score. Then Avery Arvig was inexplicably left wide open for a left side 3 and the margin was back to a comfortable (for ML) 60-48 lead. The Crusaders wrapped up the game on a high note converting on their last six possessions with two &1s in the mix on a 15-7 burst.
ML was consistent with their pp100 at 100 in the first half and finishing with 101.4 for the game. Eliminating the empty ten possession drought in the second half and the Crusaders would have tallied a 117.2 pp100. BOLD improved on their offensive performance in the second half going from 64.7 in the first half to a 87.5 in the second half. Lily Henriksen, who had 21 points for the game and 15 in the second half.
One individual stat of note that got my attention was the 200 pp100 achieved by Braylin Stahlke of Mayer Lutheran. She ended up with 16 points and was 8/12 from 2s. Most of her damage was done when BOLD was playing their 2/3 zone and she sliced into open space in the lane as the ball was moved quickly around the perimeter.
| Team | Pt | PP100 | OR/DR | FTM/a | 2M/A | 3M/A | TO/TOTO |
| Mayer Lutheran | 75 | 101.4 | 19/23 | 10/13 | 22/48 | 7/18 | 21/23.19 |
| BOLD | 57 | 77.0 | 17/21 | 9/16 | 15/42 | 6/17 | 25/10.92 |
The 31 Club had two members on Thursday and the twins from Mayer Lutheran hit the mark. Clara has made the 31 Club in prior chartings, but this was Isabelle’s first mention this season. Isabelle was consistent throughout the game racking up 21 prior to half. She cashed in at the line 7/9 and was more than effective deep going 3/5. She was also stellar with decision making with 1 turnover on 96 touches. Twin sister Clara had three 3s too, but she had more attempts. That is one reason her pp100 was under 100. Clara’s d stops topped both teams with 11.
| Player | School | 31Club | PP100 |
| Isabelle Keaveny | Mayer Lutheran | 39 | 147.4 |
| Clara Keaveny | Mayer Lutheran | 35 | 85.7 |
