GBB Out & About: Rosemount v Hastings 11.29.2018

ROSEMOUNT 66, HASTINGS 30

I shifted to the south metro after spending the first three days in the northern suburbs to catch a pair of teams in section 3AAAA. Host Rosemount moved to 2-0 on the year with a convincing 66-30 win over Hastings. Both teams are young. The Raiders start a player in each grade from 12 to 8 for an average grade of 10. Rosemount has three sophomore starters and a junior and frosh. Their average grade is 10 as well, but they also had about a two inch advantage across the starting lineup. Add into the mix the experience on the floor and the recipe was for a running time beat down. The Irish raced off to a 17-0 lead with 12:30 left in the half. Hastings tried to slow the juggernaut down with two time outs. It didn’t matter. The Irish tacked on 30 more points in the half and led 47-14 at the break. The Irish emptied their bench and they only managed to score 19 in the second half, about as many as they scored in the first five minutes of the game.

Six Rosemount players scored between 7 and 14 points.

Hastings had a miserable night shooting with a frigid 19% from 2s. They were 4/19 inside as the height advantage for Rosemount led to eight blocks. Mallory Brake only scored once from the floor for Hastings and the Irish had at least two players tracking her every step when she had possession of the ball. This was the Raiders fourth straight game without a win to open the season and their lowest offensive  output this year.

TRENCH PLAYER: Taylor Janssen of Rosemount with 14 points, 140 pp100, and 32 in the 31 Club. IF Janssen played a full game she would have scored 23.2 points and had a 31 Club score of 46.3. This marks the first time this week a trench player was a starter and someone that is older than a sophomore.
