Seeding the State 2019: Week #11

FROZEN. That is what most of the seeds look like after last week’s

deep freeze. Not too many games mean not too many shifts. The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway.

UNBEATENS: 8 is enough
When two unbeaten teams go out to face each other——only one returns” to quote Gene Pitney in “the Man who Shot Liberty Valance.” The Trojans will be gunning at home on February 22 in the revenge match (round 2 of the expected 3).

AAAA: 1 Hopkins
AAA: none
AA: 2 Eden Valley-Watkins; Medford
A: 6 Grand Meadow; Hills-Beaver Creek; Menahga; Minneota; Stephen-Argyle

How many will remain unbeaten come March? Section 3A has the most teams left with two (HBC/Minneota). A has the most contenders with 6.

STREAKING
AAAA: 19 Hopkins
AAA: 11 Waseca
AA: 18 Eden Valley-Watkins
A: 19 Grand Meadow

Of these four can they be state champs? At this stage last year four of them were.

THE FLIP SIDE

Here are teams searching for first wins—–Five remain. One was going to leave anyway. Warroad left the list on Friday with a win over winless Laporte 46-39. That means two classes are free of winless teams.

AAAA: 1 Rochester Century
AAA: none
AA: none
A: 4 Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, Laporte, Renville County West, St. John’s Prep

ME vs QRF

I try to see all the 64 AAAA teams + the top 100 teams according to the QRF poll. I still need a trio of AAAA teams to complete the list.

I need 16 more for 100. Despite the cold snap I improved by 6. Targets this week included Esko on Monday, Waconia on Thursday and Pelican Rapids and Roseau on Saturday. Two others I previously charted rose up the ranks apparently. I did improve in the top 50 (up 2%).

1-10 100%
1-25 100%
1-50 96%
1-75 89.3%
1-100 84%
