Seeding the State 2019: Week #12

Seeding the state 12

Another messed up week. Teams are losing to teams that are ranked

below them. Why? Midwinter blahs? Practice schedule disrupted? Looking past opponents & being complacent? The home stretch is on. Some sections in the lower levels finish their regular season this week. Pretty soon it is one & done.

FYI I am at 100% of AAAA & AAA; 87.5% of AA; and 37.5% in A. Have I seen the state champ in AAAA: YES!!!; AAA: Yes. AA: I believe so; A: Jury is out still.

UNBEATENS: 7 is heaven
“When two teams go out to meet——only one returns” to quote the man who shot Liberty Valance—Gene Pitney style. For the second straight week unblemished met. This week it was Eden Valley-Watkins over Menahga in a cross-class-clash.

AAAA: 1 Hopkins
AAA: none
AA: 2 Eden Valley-Watkins; Medford
A: 6 Grand Meadow; Hills-Beaver Creek; Minneota; Stephen-Argyle

How many will remain unbeaten come March? Section 3A has the most teams left with two (HBC/Minneota). A has the most contenders with 4.

STREAKING
AAAA: 21 Hopkins
AAA: 12 Waseca
AA: 20 Eden Valley-Watkins
A: 22 Grand Meadow

Of these four can they be state champs? At this stage last year four of them were. Grand Meadow passed a HUGE test over Goodhue on Friday. They will need to do the same to get out of section 1A in March.

THE FLIP SIDE

Here are teams searching for first wins—–a Final 4 remain. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda departed with a 52-44 win over Edgerton on Tuesday.

AAAA: 1 Rochester Century
AAA: none
AA: none
A: 3 Laporte, Renville County West, St. John’s Prep

ME & QRF

I try to see all the 64 AAAA teams + the top 100 teams according to the QRF poll. I still need a trio of AAAA teams to complete the list.

I need 12 more for 100. It was another shut out day on Thursday this past week. The games in the metro that were played I had previously charted those teams. Leaving the list this week were Saturday teams: Sauk Centre, Eden Valley-Watkins and Austin from Monday. My goal of Hibbing on Thursday was blown away, or buried by snow. The expectation this week, is maybe five, but four for sure.

1-10 100%
1-25 100%
1-50 96%
1-75 92%
1-100 88%
1-125 75%
