Seeding the State 2019: Week #13

The Home stretch, the last of the senior nights wrap up this week.

FYI not all #1 seeds get to state. We are looking at a 75% clip in the bigger classes. Smaller classes sometimes have two #1 seeds (North/South or East/West). Even then a #2 or #3 slips by.

UNBEATENS: 5 Stars
Two fell by the wayside this week, both in A. Actually, #1 Minneota lost to Brandon Valley of suburban Sioux Falls the week before. Grand Meadow fell to a potential 1A semifinalist—-defending A champ Lyle-Pacelli.

AAAA: 1 Hopkins
AAA: none
AA: 2 Eden Valley-Watkins; Medford
A: 2 Hills-Beaver Creek; Stephen-Argyle

How many will remain unbeaten come March? My crystal ball says a possible three get to state, my money would be more on two. Only one has a strong chance to win it all.

STREAKING

A log jam in AAA. A new leader in A.
AAAA: 25 Hopkins
AAA: 13 Hibbing, Red Wing, St. Paul Como Park, Waseca
AA: 23 Eden Valley-Watkins
A: 22 Stephen-Argyle

For those of you wondering how in the world Wayzata can be ahead of Hopkins in the QRF when Hopkins, who is undefeated and beat Wayzata head to head…..Simple. Hopkins (and anyone else that plays out of state competition) does not have those results reflected in the scores. Hopkins just beat an undefeated and defending state champion from Wisconsin. Nothing. Not even crickets. Hopkins has 3 such wins this year. Wayzata has stayed within the confines of the borders.

THE FLIP SIDE

Not a change here. The clock is ticking closer to midnight.

AAAA: 1 Rochester Century
AAA: none
AA: none
A: 3 Laporte, Renville County West, St. John’s Prep

ME & QRF

I try to see all the 64 AAAA teams + the top 100 teams according to the QRF poll. I have two to see of AAAA teams to complete the list—-and only this week to get it done.

Big Lake & Monticello on Monday; Totino-Grace & Spring Lake Park on Wednesday; and finally, the elusive Hibbing when they traveled to Deer River on Friday. Those five cut my total to see to down to six with one regular season week, two playoff weeks and a state week left on the menu. I could whittle away this week with a possible one. The big fish this week is the AAAA completion. Provided there is no massive blizzard, or the temps drop to -25, I will be good to go.
