GBB Out & About: Heritage Christian v Cherry 2.23.2019

HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 70, CHERRY 49

#8A Heritage Christian finished a two game series in the Arrowhead

region with a solid 70-49 win over Cherry, who is the #3 seed in the upcoming 7A tournament. Friday night HC edged out #11A Mountain Iron-Buhl on a last second three 55-54. The effects of playing a draining game Friday, staying in an unfamiliar location with a break in routine, and a quick turnaround in game prep had no ill effects on the Eagles. The defending 4A section champs did not trail in this game but were tied at various points early in the game, the last coming at 21. Jordyn Allen started an 18-8 finish in the last 5:49 of the half that put the visitors in the driver’s seat.

HC had three players reach double figures with Kirstin Robbins leading the way with 25. The Eagles had a hot hand shooting a sizzling 67.6% from 2s. That was due to a 13/17 mark on lay ups. Cherry was not bad at lay ups but did not have the quantity going 4/5. HC’s Taylie Scott, who was a tad under the weather, had 9 points, but still joined the 31 Club on the nose thanks to 11 distributions and 11 d stops. Two other Eagles were knocking on the door to the 31 Club with Taylor Schuck missing by one and Allen off by four.

This was my first time in Cherry. I have whizzed by there on my way to Hibbing a variety of times and have charted the Tigers there in 7A action. Cherry has an older gym with permanent seating that is not used for games now. A newer facility houses the current squad.
