2AA NORTH SEMIS
The roads outside on Friday were sloppy. Some of that carried over
into the gym in the North half of section 2AA. Both teams that won were higher ranked, but both had over 20 turnovers in their wins. In the second game there was a sequence of five straight turnovers by both teams. Oddly enough both trench players led their respective games in turnovers. Perhaps this was because they were both active and pushing the envelope. But it seemed like the offenses were careening down an icy highway nevertheless. Both winners reached their destination. The rebound battle was split. Both won the field goal % battle.
NORWOOD-YOUNG AMERICA 67, BELLE PLAINE 48
Separation came somewhat early in this game. After an opening 3 from BP’s Paige Narveson, NYA scored 8 unanswered points forcing a Tiger timeout three minutes and twenty seconds in the game. Their second time out came three minutes later down 16-5. That margin held up most of the rest of the game. One clear separator was lay ups. NYA was 10/18; BP 2/4. The other big differential came at the free throw line with NYA cashing in 13 points to four for BP.

JORDAN 57, TRI-CITY UNITED 47
Jordan and TCU split on the year, so this was the rubber match. Jordan held an upper hand in the first half going up 25-14 after a 3 by Makenna Johnson with under five minutes to go in the first half. TCU finished the half with a 13-4 kick to trail 31-27 at the break. A 3 by TCU’s Keely Oak gave them a momentary 35-33 lead and it also forced a Jaguar time out. The next two possessions were travels. Jordan scored three straight possessions with a 3 by Juella Mahto igniting the surge. Soon it was back to a four point margin (41-37). Another three straight possession score broke TCU and increased the Jordan lead to 51-41. The capstone was a steal & lay up by Mahto off an inbounds pass just after Kat Brown-Erdal scored on a drive. That margin was maintained the rest of the game. Jordan did not allow TCU post Maggie Trnka to go wild from the floor. She had 13 points, 7 from the line.
