FIRST SINGLES

Catherine KIEFFER 2, TALINA 0
(21-8, 21-10)

Last season Kieffer played at the third singles spot. This year she made the move to the top of the Trinity charts. Today she showcased her ability to deliver winners with 30 in the bag. Clears and smashes tied for her high winner total with 9.

The match started out with Talina scoring the first four points. Her short serve caught Kieffer off balance on two of those points. A two stroke clear broke the spell. When Kieffer served she was able to generate runs each time. On her second serve she had a tidal wave of 13 points to leave no doubt to the outcome. Both players kept the bird up with Kieffer able to capitalize with clears for five points in the first set.

There were no mega-runs in the second set, but Talina was not able to generate anything more than a dual point string. Kieffer’s run came down to four from the double digit surge in the first set. Kieffer also had to rely more on her shots as Talina limited her errors to four points. In this set Kieffer favored the smash to the tune of six points. Kieffer didn’t take control of the set until a run of three put her in front 7-4.
