HENRY 6, SOUTH 1
Sometimes a team isn’t at full strength and they suffer the consequences. South on Tuesday had players either ill or players that were unable to make the bus. As a result, their line up featured players that were put into new positions. The only Tiger spots that were standard came at both first singles and doubles. Only Sarita Venkatrathnam provided South with a victory as the Patriots swept the doubles and took the last three singles spots in a victory at Henry. Even with the substitutions, South proved competitive in the singles. The only match that went three sets came at fourth singles. Three singles sets were decided by two points, all going extra points. Henry’s Christy Ngo, at second singles, won both her sets in extra points.
I have now charted 15 teams with eight more to go. If the blizzard of the millenium doesn’t pan out I may get four more teams charted by Friday.

FIRST SINGLES

(21-7, 21-9)
This match was the most one sided of the seven today. South’s Sarita Venkatrathnam held Henry’s Pa Nhia to single digits in both sets. Both sets broke hard for Venkatrathnam late. The Tiger won points after eleven by the substantial margin of 20-3 (.870). Prior to that the sets were competitive at 22-13. In both sets Venkatrathnam scored 16 points off serve. In both sets she won her points by the exact same totals at 91. The differences came on winners with more coming in the second set (15-11).
In set one PaNhia opened with the first two points before Venkatrahnam rattled off five straight points. The Tiger closed with a flourish with the last nine points of the set. The drive was the weapon of choice in the first set with five falling for winners for SV.
In set two, PaNhia scored the first two points, just as in set one, before Venkatrathnam started her runs. She got the first three points, all on winners including one block. PaNhia tied it at seven with her only run of the day. Venkatrathnam blew the game open with two runs of six sandwiched around a hitting error that found the net (12-1).
