MN VB: All Star Bios

MN VOLLEYBALL ALL STAR CLASSIC to be held Wednesday, July 26 at St. Cloud State.

This match will run in conjunction with the annual high school volleyball coach’s clinic held each year in Minnesota. This contest marks the 30th Annual Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association All-Star classic. This match will feature some of the finest high school players from the 2016 Minnesota high school volleyball season. All twenty-one of our players tonight were either named All-State or Honorable-Mention All-State by coaches from around the state following the 2016 regular season. Fourteen of our tonight players have played in one or more volleyball state tournaments and three of our players tonight have been crowned state champions at some point during their high school career. For participating in the match this evening, each player will receive their match uniform, a practice t-shirt, an All-Star Match plaque containing individual and team pictures, and a complimentary lunch and dinner all courtesy of the Minnesota Volleyball Coaches Association. Players will be throwing out autographed mini volleyballs during introductions. In addition, there will be prizes given to the crowd during timeouts and between sets. This should prove to be a very competitive evening of volleyball. Match sponsors include The Graphic Edge and Baden. Special thanks to The Graphic Edge for donating our match uniforms tonight. Meet the 2017 All-Stars

White Team All-Star Bio’s

#1 – Gabbie Gervais – Tracy-Milroy- Balaton – S – 5’9” – Played for her mother, Katie, at TMB…team finished the season 30-8 in 2016…Panthers defeated Heritage Christian Academy in three sets to earn third place honors at the Class A state tournament last season…2016 state tourney trip marked the third straight year that TMB advanced to state…Gervais was also on the Panther team that finished fourth in 2015 and runner-up in 2014…named to the Class A All-Tournament Team at the state tournament in 2015 and 2016…TMB won the Camden Conference title in 2016 finishing a perfect 11-0 in the league, marking the third straight year the Panthers claimed top honors in the Camden…was named to the Camden Conference All-Conference team in 2014, 2015, and 2016…was conference MVP in 2015 an 2016…named Honorable Mention All-State in 2014 and All-State in 2015 and 2016…favorite volleyball memories include all of the community support and excitement when the team advanced to state, getting the opportunity to play with her sister (Sammie), and being coached by her mother (Katie) …will attend South Dakota State University this fall…

#1 – Coranda Vickerman – Mabel-Canton – LIB/OH – 5’8” – Played for Lonnie Morken at Mabel-Canton…team finished 31-6 in 2016…team won their first 15 regular season matches in 2016…Cougars advanced to the Sub-Section final where they lost to eventual Section 1A champion Caledonia in three sets…was named All-State in 2015 and 2016…Cougars finished 15-0 en route to winning the Southeast Conference…2016 conference title marked the fifth straight for Mabel-Canton…was named Conference MVP in 2015 and 2016…was All-Conference in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016…was a five-year starter for the Cougars…named to the Rochester Post Bulletin All-Area team in 2016…significant career statistics include 2,414 set assists, 668 kills, 317 service aces, and 1,069 digs…most memorable volleyball moment was seeing our team defeat Fillmore Central during Sub-Section play after trailing 0-2 in sets…will attend Luther College this fall…

#2 – Jill Klaphake – Sauk Centre – S – 5’7” – Played for her father, Jim, at Sauk Centre…team finished 29-3 in 2016…Mainstreeters lost to eventual Class AA state champion, Maple Lake, in the Section 6AA championship in four sets…team finished 13-1 in the West Central Conference in 2016 and tied with Morris Area for top honors…was named All-Conference and conference MVP in 2016…Sauk Centre had a 17-match winning streak during the 2016 season…team won both the Sauk Rapids-Rice and the Perham Tournaments last fall…was named All-State in 2016…became the all-time leader in career set assists last season for the Mainstreeters……favorite volleyball memory winning the conference by defeating Morris Area in four sets after losing an earlier five-set match with the Tigers…will attend Concordia College in Moorhead this fall…

#4 – Isabella Lien – Heritage Christian Academy – MB – 6’2” – Played for Tom Fuglestad at Heritage Christian Academy… team finished the season 26-12 in 2016…lost to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the 2016 Class A third place match…Eagles defeated TMB in the 2015 Class A third place match…Heritage Christian advanced to the state tournament for the second straight year after winning all four of their Section 4A matches 3-0 in 2016…team finished 7-1 and runner-up in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Conference in 2016…was named to the All-Conference team in 2016…was named All-State in 2016…named to the Class A All-Tourney team at the state tournament in 2016…fondest volleyball memory is winning the section and advancing to state for the first time in school history in 2015…will attend North Dakota State University this fall and play volleyball for the Bison…

#9 – Kate Berg – Wayzata – OH – 5’9” – Played for Scott Jackson at Wayzata…Trojans finished 23-7 in 2016 and lost to Champlin Park in five sets in the Section 5AAA finals…2016 marked the fourth straight season that the Trojans lost in the section finals…team finished runner-up to Hopkins in the Lake Conference with a league record of 5-3 in 2016…Trojans were conference champs in 2015…was named All-Conference in 2014, 2015, and 2016…this past year, Wayzata placed in all three regular season tournaments that they competed in getting second at the Southwest Minnesota Challenge, first at the Blaine Tournament, and third at the STMA Tourney…named All-State in 2015 and 2016…was named to the All-Metro 2 nd Team in 2015 and 2016…finished 4 th overall in kills in 2016…reached the 1,000 kill milestone in 2016, and finished as the all-time kill leader at Wayzata with 1,449 career kills…most memorable volleyball moment was going defeating Eden Prairie at Eden Prairie for the first time in three four years…will attend the University of Minnesota at Duluth and play volleyball for the Bulldogs…

#10 – Anna Blaschko – Shakopee – MB – 6’1” – Played for Matt Busch at Shakopee…Sabers finished 20-10 in 2016 and was ranked #6 in the final Class AAA poll…team lost to Prior Lake in three sets in the Section 2AAA finals…marked the second straight year that the Sabers advanced to the section final, losing to the Lakers both years…2016 team finished 5-3 in the South Suburban Conference…was named All-Conference in 2015 and 2016…earned All-Metro honors in 2016…named All-State in 2016…three-year letter-winner for Shakopee…led the Sabers in ace blocks in each of her three seasons on the varsity…led the team in ace blocks (133) and kills (261) during her final season at Shakopee…finished career as the all-time leader in ace blocks with 300…favorite volleyball memory is the run the team had during Section 2AAA play in 2015 when the Sabers were the #7 seed and went on to defeat #2 seed Eden Prairie and #3 seed Chaska before falling to eventual section champion Prior Lake in the finals…will attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha and play volleyball for the Mavericks this fall…

#10 – Payton Nutter – Bethlehem Academy – S/OH – 5’9” – Played for Franz Boelter at Bethlehem Academy…Cardinals finished 21-8 in 2016 and lost to Hayfield in four sets in the Section 1A-West finals…team finished with a record of 6-0 in the Gopher Conference…was named All-Conference in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016…named All-State in each of her final four seasons…was selected as a Baden Ms. Volleyball finalist in 2016…team advanced to the state tournament in 2011, 2012, 2014, and 2015 winning state titles in 2011, 2012, and 2014…earned All-Tournament Team honors at the state tournament twice…named to the Faribault Daily News Player of the Year four times…named a PrepVolleyball.com All-American three times…favorite volleyball memory is winning the state championship in 2014…will attend Concordia University in St. Paul and play volleyball for the Golden Bears this fall…

#13 – Erin Fallert – Concordia Academy – OH – 5’11” – Played for Kim Duis at Concordia Academy…team finished the season 26-8 in 2016…was defeated by Maple Lake in the 2016 Class AA championship in straight sets…named to the Class AA All-Tourney team at the state tournament in 2015 and 2016…named to the All-State team in 2014, 2015, and 2016…also named Academic All-State in 2016…five-year letter-winner for the Beacons…team won Tri-Metro Conference title in 2015 and 2016 finishing 9-0 in the league both seasons…was named to the All-Conference team in 2014, 2015, and 2016…named to All-Metro teams in both the StarTribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press…Athena Award winner at Concordia Academy…recorded over 1,000 kills and over 1,000 digs during high school career…also participated in the state track meet in 2016 and 2017…most memorable moments in volleyball include defeating St. Croix Lutheran in the section finals in 2014 and defeating Kenyon-Wanamingo in the state semifinals in 2016…will attend Concordia University in St. Paul in the fall and play volleyball for the Golden Bears…

#14 – Madeline Torve – Heritage Christian Academy – S – 6’0” – Played for Tom Fuglestad at Heritage Christian Academy… team finished the season 26-12 in 2016…lost to Tracy-Milroy-Balaton in the 2016 Class A third place match…Eagles defeated TMB in the 2015 Class A third place match…Heritage Christian advanced to the state tournament for the second straight year after winning all four of their Section 4A matches 3-0 in 2016…was named to the All-Tournament team for Class A at the state tournament in 2015 and 2016…team finished 7-1 and runner-up in the Minnesota Christian Athletic Conference in 2016…named All-Conference in 2014, 2015 and 2016…selected All-State in 2015 and 2016…earned Academic All-State honors in 2015 and 2016…fondest volleyball memory is being on the first athletic team at Heritage Christian Academy to advance to a state tournament when the volleyball team won the Section 4A title in 2015…will attend St. Cloud State University this fall and play volleyball for the Huskies…

#20 – Tayah Barnes – Fillmore Central – LIB – 5’7” – Played for Travis Malley at Fillmore Central… team finished the season 18-10 in 2016…lost to Mabel-Canton in five sets in the second round of the Section 1A-East tournament…Falcons finished third in the Three Rivers Conference in 2016 with a league record of 10-2…named All-Conference in 2015 and 2016…team won conference crown in 2013…selected Honorable Mention All-State in 2016…favorite volleyball memory is playing in the state tournament in 2013 and finishing as Class A runner-up…will attend Augsburg College this fall and play volleyball for the Auggies…

#1 – Lexi Turn – Kittson Central – S – 5’7” – Played for Tina Turn at Kittson County Central…Bearcats finished 26-7 in 2016 and lost in four sets to Stephen-Argyle in the Sub-Section 8A-West finals…team finished 4-1 in the Northern Lights Conference…was named to the All-Conference team in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016…Bearcats won conference titles in 2013, 2014, and 2015…was Honorable-Mention All-State in 2014 and All-State in 2015 and 2016…also Academic All-State in 2016…team won Section 8A title and advanced to the state tournament in 2014…favorite volleyball memory is playing in the state tournament…will attend Concordia College this fall and play volleyball for the Cobbers…

#2 – Madison Lake – Sebeka – S – 5’10” – Played for Becca Pulju at Sebeka…Trojans finished 20-12 in 2016 and lost to Underwood in five sets in the Section 6A championship…team went 5-2 in the Park Region Conference…named All-Conference in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016…named Honorable All-State in 2015 and 2016…team finished as Class A consolation champions at the state tournament in 2015 by defeating Verndale in five sets…finished high school career with over 3,000 set assists and over 1,000 digs…fondest volleyball memory is playing in the state tournament her junior season…will play volleyball next fall at the University of Wisconsin at River Falls…

#3 – Megan Flom – Kenyon-Wanamingo – MB – 6’1” – Played for Jennifer Nerison at Kenyon-Wanamingo…team finished 34-2 in 2016 and earned third place honors in the Class AA state tournament by defeating Kasson-Mantorville in straight sets…named to the Class AA All-Tournament team at the state tournament in 2016…team advanced to the state tournament after losing in the Section 2AA finals the three previous seasons…Knights finished 11-0 en route to winning the Hiawatha Valley League title last season…was named All-Conference…named to the All-State and the Academic All-State team in 2016…team had a 20-match winning streak during the 2016 season…Knights won their own home tournament as well as the Class AA Showcase in 2016…only loss during the regular season was to Caledonia in the finals of the Wabasha-Kellogg Tournament…named first team All-Area in the both the Rochester Post Bulletin and the Faribault Daily News in 2016…favorite volleyball memory is playing in the state tournament and finishing third in 2016…will play volleyball at Winona State University this fall…

#4 – Erin Navratil – Albany – OH – 6’0” – Played for Brian Hines at Albany…Huskies finished 17-12 in 2016 and lost to Sauk Centre in the second round of the Section 6AA tournament…team finished 9-1 in the Granite Ridge Conference in a tie with St. Cloud Cathedral at the top of the league standings…named All-Conference and league MVP in 2016…named Honorable Mention All-State last season…named to the St. Cloud Times All-Area team…finished her high school career with 1,290 kills…fondest volleyball memories are beating St. Cloud Cathedral her final two seasons with each match going five sets…will remain a Husky and play volleyball at St. Cloud State this fall…

#4 – Izzy Sommers – Totino-Grace – MB – 6’0” – Played for Kayla Cole at Totino- Grace…Eagles finished 15-15 in 2016…team lost to Stillwater in the second round of the Section 4AAA tournament in four sets…team finished 6-5 in the Northwest Suburban Conference last season…was named to the All-Conference team in 2015 and 2016…was part of the Eagle team that won a conference title in 2013…team was the 5AAA runner-up in 2014 and the 4AAA runner-up in 2015…was named Honorable Mention All-State and Academic All-State in 2016…favorite volleyball memory is defeating Osseo in five sets during section play her sophomore year…will attend Augustana University and play volleyball for the Vikings this fall…

#5 – Elizabeth Johnson – Belle Plaine – LIB – 5’6” – Played for Rich Faust, Sara Geller, and Cassie Koch at Belle Plaine…Tigers finished the 2016 season with a record of 25-7 and lost in four sets to Kenyon-Wanamingo in the Section 2AA finals…5-time letter winner at Belle Plaine…Tigers finished a perfect 8-0 in the Minnesota River Conference in 2016 to earn their fourth straight conference title…was named All-Conference in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016…was named Honorable Mention All-State in 2016…team advanced to the Class AA state tournament in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015…Tigers were Class AA state champions in 2015…finished career with over 1,400 digs…favorite volleyball memory is winning the state championship in 2015…will attend the Minnesota State-Moorhead and play softball for the Dragons…

#5 – Kate Masberg – Waterville-Elysian- Morristown – S/OPP – 5’9” – Played for Crystal Lamont at WEM…Buccaneers finished 30-5 in 2016 and lost to eventual Class A state champion Mayer Lutheran in the Section 2A final in straight sets…team finished 5-1 in the Gopher Conference last season…was named to the All-Conference team in 2014, 2015 and 2016…was named All-State in 2015 and 2016…team won their won tournament with five straight wins on September 10…Buccaneers won the Class A state championship in 2015…was named to the Class A All-Tournament team that year…fondest volleyball memory was winning the state championship her junior year…will attend the Winona State University and play volleyball for the Warriors this fall…

#10 – Hannah Gail – Wheaton-Herman- Norcross – OH – 5’11” – Played for Darla Thiel at Wheaton-Herman- Norcross…Warriors finished 24-4 in 2016 and lost to Underwood in three sets in the Section 6A semi-finals…team finished 8-0 in the Pheasant Conference to earn top honors in the league…named All-Conference and league MVP last season…team never had more than three regular season losses in any of her four seasons on varsity…Warriors had a 13-match winning streak in 2016…was Honorable Mention All-State in 2016…finished high school career with over 1,000 kills…favorite volleyball memory is from her freshmen year getting the chance to play with her sister in 2013 when her sister was a senior …will attend Aveda Institute in Minneapolis this fall…

#13 – Kiley Borowicz – Roseau – OH – 5’8” – Played for Becky Hayden at Roseau…Rams finished 2016 with a record of 26-6 and lost in four sets to Dilworth-Glyndon- Felton in the semi-finals in Section 8AA…team finished 5-0 in the North Border Conference to earn their fourth straight league title…was named to the All-Conference team in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016…was conference MVP in 2016…named All-State in 2016…team had at least 20 wins in each of her final four seasons…during her varsity career recorded 1,227 kills, 1,482 digs, 824 set assists, and 235 service aces… favorite volleyball memory is getting the chance to play with her sisters…will attend Minnesota State-Moorhead and play basketball for the Dragons this fall…

#14 – Abby Benson – Jackson County Central – OH/MB – 6’1” – Played for Deidre Wierson at Jackson County Central…Huskies finished 23-9 in 2016 and lost to Morris Area in four sets in the Section 3AA championship…team finished 5-1 in the Big South Conference…was named to the All-Conference team in 2014, 2015 and 2016…Honorable All-State in 2015 and All-State in 2016…team won their own tournament during the 2016 season…was named to the Worthington Daily Globe All-Area team in 2015 and 2016…named to The Breakdown Top 75 Juniors in 2015 and the Super 100 Seniors in 2016…favorite volleyball memory is playing with some great teammates and being selected All-State in 2016…will attend Augustana University this fall and play volleyball for the Vikings…

#14 – Danielle Taylor – Belle Plaine – S – 5’4” – Played for Rich Faust, Sara Geller, and Cassie Koch at Belle Plaine…Tigers finished the 2016 season with a record of 25-7 and lost in four sets to Kenyon-Wanamingo in the Section 2AA finals…5-time letter winner at Belle Plaine…team finished a perfect 8-0 in the Minnesota River Conference in 2016 to earn their fourth straight conference title…was named All-Conference in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016…was named Honorable Mention All-State in 2016…team advanced to the Class AA state tournament in 2012, 2013, 2014, and 2015…Tigers were Class AA state champions in 2015…was named to the Class AA All-Tournament team in 2015…finished high school career as the all-time assist leader at Belle Plaine with 3,215…fondest volleyball memory is winning the Class AA state championship and being named to the All-Tournament team in 2015…will attend the University of Wisconsin at River Falls this fall and play volleyball for the Falcons…
