GBB Out & About: Minneapolis Southwest v Cristo Rey Jesuit

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST 69, CRISTO REY JESUIT 32

The only game in the state tonight took place in the confines of Minneapolis with the public school Southwest topping the newest Catholic school from “Midtown” Minneapolis—-Cristo Rey Jesuit—in running time. The Lakers scored the first 22 points of the evening in the first five minutes before the Pumas connected on a put back after a missed free throw. That started a string of a dozen unanswered points for CRJ. SW restored their starters and once again expanded their margin at the break to 39-21. After two scoreless minutes in the second half, SW scored two straight 3s and the margin was 24 (45-21). SW’s bench scored on the last three possessions to cap the night off.

The Lakers’ depth, balance and boards kept CRJ stymied. The SW bench outscored the CRJ bench 14-0. Four Laker starters had nine or more points. SW’s rebound advantage was 22. The turnover count was milder at 5. The 3 also played a big part in the separation between both teams. Both launched over 40% of their shots from behind the arc. SW was able to capitalize eight times, good for 24 points. Virginia Johnson, who led all scorers with 16 points, nailed four 3s for the Lakers. Ella Pritchard led CRJ with 11. Both are 2023s.
