GBB Out & About: Tartan v Minneapolis Washburn

TARTAN 56, MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN 42

Tartan picked up their first win in the Zack Vogelsberg era with a comeback win over visiting Washburn Monday night. The Millers held a 32-25 lead at the half, with their own comeback in the first half. The Millers had a 10-2 deficit at the start and burned two time outs in the first three minutes to get back on track. Going inside and capitalizing on Kesha White’s turned the trick. With five minutes to go in the first half Washburn pulled in front 24-23. That rally might have come at some expense. The tank turned up empty at the start of the second half. Tartan held the Millers scoreless their first nine possessions including six straight possessions that ended in turnovers. Also Naomi York left the game in the first half with an injury which hampered their decision making. After that Washburn had issues negotiating the Tartan pressure.  The Titans turned the game around when Bryana Bell erupted for 11 points in the space of two minutes including three 3s. She was part of the Titans’ four straight 3s with Makayla Harris nailing the other 3. Harris and Bell tied for team high scoring with a sweet 16. Washburn’s White, showed frustration with the second half output with a technical foul with 1:18 left. Tartan was unable to tack on the potential six  points on that possession, but did add the two free throws.

Tartan is now 1-2. Washburn falls to 3-2.
