GBB Out & About: Rogers v Armstrong 2.10.2020

ROGERS 78, ARMSTRONG 43

Rogers got to running time…..barely…. with 50 seconds left on the clock Monday in a 78-43 win on the road at Armstrong. This was a make up contest from the famous snow out on January 17. The Royals were blazing right from the start (or at least the second possession). Sophomore guard Ellie Buzzelle started the scoring with a 3. She had 18 points by half time as Rogers’ starters were clocked at 141.9 pp100 in the first half. Buzzelle finished with 29 with a sizzling 6/9 on 3s. Rogers nailed 10 on the night. They weren’t shabby inside either at 58%. In a sequence of eight possessions in the first half the Rampaging Royals scored 16 points holding the hosts during that time to 3. The running time component was tantalizingly close throughout much of the second half. Rogers entered the last 18 minutes with a 44-17 lead. With six minutes left the NW Suburban newcomer led 66-36. When the deeper bench was on the court the pp100s dropped, but so did the starters numbers in the second half.

Armstrong is in a rebuilding phase and they have a strong cornerstone in 6-2 freshman post Savannah McGowan who led the Falcons with 17 points and was a centurion. Armstrong is 3-19 on the year and has lost seven straight games. Rogers is 9-13 on the year. This was their third charting this year—in which they are 2-1.

These teams will meet again next Tuesday in Rogers.

With this contest there are three remaining AAAA teams on my menu—-or 95% of the field completed. It appears that completing that list will happen this year. The top 100 is dicier. With the revamped list out today, I went from seven remaining to nine left. That is an issue with two weeks of regular season and then the log jam of section games on select days. Games are not evenly spaced out properly unfortunately. I am under the gun.
