MN GBB: Seeding the State #7 2021

Past, present, and future….

Seeds below are what if. But not for 2021. As noted last week there will be predetermined seeds. Besides the change from seeding there will be NO consolation and NO third place games. There will NOT be an all tournament team either. There will be a limitation on the number of fans at the events. Reporters will have to do distance zoom interviews. It will be an event like no other. And hopefully a one and done experience.

This weekend the MYAS state grade championships are being held at a plethora of sites across the metro. Usually, I attend the eighth grade championship. With restrictions limited to one family member that will not be the case in 2021. At any rate in the five top grade level brackets Wayzata was the #1 seed in four of them. After Saturday the final four for all levels have been set. Multiple entries from one program are few and far between for the final fours this year. You can count them on one hand
Program, amount—–grades
Wayzata 3—-8, 6, 5
Mahtomedi 2—8, 6
Lakeville South 2—-5, 4

Expect these three teams to have some pop in the future. Will every kid end up at the high school projected? No. There will be movement either with physical location change, dropping the sport for another, or opting for a non-public school choice.

As for what conference stands to gain the most it is the usual suspects

South Suburban 6—-Lakeville South 5, 4; Prior Lake 6, Rosemount 5, Shakopee 4, Lakeville North 4
Lake 4—–besides Wayzata’s 3, Edina
NW Suburban 4—–Champlin Park 8, Blaine 6, Park Center 5

As for the present…. the below is a fantasy of what might have been in normal times.
