2024 Badminton Poll #4

We are at the halfway point. Rolling spring break is finished. All teams will be in action next week.

St. Paul moves their conference match start times to 5:30.

I am up to 23 teams charted (82%). Five to go—North, Burnsville, Fridley, Hiawatha, TCA (I did see Burnsville at the Edina Invitational, but not in a dual match situation).

I have added totals to the singles career win totals going back to 2014. The leader on the 2014 to 2024 list  is still Sunshine Vang with 64 career wins. Right behind is Phlower Vang with 63. Two more wins and she becomes the leader. I do not have career win totals of individuals prior to 2014. That means Olamide Fadahunsi of Johnson may have the most career wins, but I don’t know the totals. She on the singles title in her sophomore and senior year and finished second in her junior year.

This week in singles #2 Jasmine Tran of Burnsville and #3 Tenzin Tsephel of Edina meet on Tuesday at Burnsville. On the doubles side in the same match #1 Ivy Peterson & Sanna Coma of Edina are slated to face #4 Natalie Portwood & Katie Murray of Burnsville. Also, on Tuesday #5 Kimberly Tobar of Harding will look to hand #1 Phlower Vang of Highland Park her first loss of the year. Again a key doubles match takes place in the same match: #3 Linda Chang & Kasey Yang of Harding are up against Bety Shiferaw & Edi Damiyo of HP. That match is at Harding. Monday Eden Prairie hosts a triangular with Harding and Burnsville.

Looking back on what goes into winning from 2016. The key is to hold you opponent to as few points on their service while maximizing your service impact. Key numbers are 10 service points a set and limiting the opponent to seven or less.

WHAT GOES INTO WINNING
If your side out % is .625 or better your record is 23-2
If your Winner to error ratio is 1.00 or better your record is 34-7
If you average 10 or more service points per set your record is 41-0. 1.000
If you average 7 or less service points allowed your record is 30-0 1.000
