Here is a look at the two first doubles matches that closed the week.
THURSDAY: Ivy Peterson/ Sanna Coma, EDINA 2, Say Paw / Gay Ler Htoo, WASHINGTON 0
The #1 Hornet pair of Ivy Peterson and Sanna Coma suffocated Washington’s offensive game in a 15-5, 21-14 win on Thursday in the final match of the Presidential Triangular. They only allowed six points across two sets on Eagle serves while scoring 29. The Edina pair had five side outs in the first set and then started the second set with five more for a grand total of ten straight. In the meantime they scored on every service in the first set before Washington belatedly shut the door. Washington’s Gay Ler Htoo caught fire with her serve late with four straight aces, all short, that flummoxed the Hornets. But it was a matter of too little, too late. It did close the second set gap to 17-13. Washington was hampered in that they had zero smash points on the day compared to nine for the Hornets.
Once again the Edina duo forced Washington to play the low end game. The Eagles had a 64-28 difference in low birds, while Edina enjoyed a 71-39 advantage on upper birds. Translation: Edina had 24 winners from the upper zone, Washington 3. And as far as points allowed or lost at the low end: Washington 20, Edina 10.

FRIDAY: Jolena Young / Claire Yang, NORTH ST. PAUL 2, Lisa Truong / Tsuki Solheid COMO PARK 1 (21-17, 21-11)
The Polars Y squared combination (Young & Yang) was the only win for the visiting Polars Friday at Como Park. The North St. Paul duo got out of a 14-7 hole in the first set thanks to eight straight points. The early portion of the first set was all Cougars as they held NSP scoreless seven straight services. The ninth, when Jolena Young was serving, broke the drought. The pair of Truong & Solheid were outscored 14-3 the rest of that set. After that, across both sets, NSP scored on their remaining eight services.
The Polars opened with four straight runs in the second set. The led 16-5 before Como earned their first run.
NSP led in winners with Yang leading all winner categories with six smashes. Young added four for a 10-3 advantage in that department over the hosts.
