ALL IN THE FAMILY—-SISTERS & TWINS
Here are the top point getters for families of sisters and twins.
SISTERS
To be included in this list the sisters had to score 1000 or more points each.
- Hill (Tayler, Morgan, Jade, Angel) Minneapolis South & Minnehaha 11,517
- Borowicz (Kiley, Kacie, Katie) Roseau 9,234
- Monahan (Maddie, McKenna, Miah, Mylea) Glencoe-Silver Lake 7,603*
- Wagner (Carlie, Maddie, Marnie) NRHEG 7,418
- Dahlman (Rebekah, Hannah) Braham 6,881
31 sets of sisters are on this list. The * above indicates the totals will grow after this year because one player is still active. Besides the Monahan’s, other sister groupings that are active still include the Counts from Providence, the Rich’s from New London-Spicer, the Lodermeier’s from Goodhue; and the Greenway’s from Providence.
TWINS
12 pairs of twins have each scored 1000 or more points.
- Miller (Kelly & Coco), Rochester Mayo 1997 4264
- Kottke (Kristi & Rachel), Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 3630
- Wagner (Maddie & Marnie) NRHEG 2017 3436
- Chmielewski (Ali & Kristie) Foley 2002 3283
- Anderson (Samantha & Danielle) Wrenshall 2008 2796
There are currently four sets of twins that will be added to this list, two from the 2025 class (Morrison, Walker & Rohloff, Hancock), two from the 2026 class (Lamppa, Rock Ridge & Keaveny, Mayer Lutheran).
The first twins to each make 1000 or more points was Lisa & Lora Klemetsen of Littlefork-Big Falls in 1995. The Miller’s are the only pair to both reach 2000 or more points. An interesting side note—-the Kottke’s reached 1000 in the same game on Jan 23, 2023 against ACGC. The busiest year for Twins came in 2022 when three pairs joined the list: Crabtree from Hawley; Dudycha from Austin and Hanson from Hancock. The only metro school on this listing is the Garibay’s (2012) from South St. Paul.
But wait….what about boy/girl twins? There are six of those pairs starting in 1986 with the Vonesh twins (David & DeDe) of East Grand forks. The top pair here is Hunter & Hannah Hannuksela of Mesabi East in 2021 with 4229 combined. Next after that is the Elton’s (Aric & Taylor) of Spring Grove in 2012 with a combined 3418.
Thanks for the information from Matt Pederson of Starbuck.
ABOUT LAST NIGHT….Minnetonka v Lakeville South
Minnetonka broke a two-game losing streak with a convincing 71-52 victory on the road at Lakeville South on Wednesday. The contest didn’t start the way Minnetonka would have preferred. The hosts connected on their first two possessions and built their largest lead of the night at 5-0. There was still plenty of game left and Minnetonka battled back quickly to take their first lead at 8-7. LS rattled off six straight scores to get back in front 21-17, but there were some troubling trends already being established—namely the inability to finish close to the rim. Bunnies failed to drop, not for lack of action. Both teams were permitting the other side to gather offensive rebounds: Minnetonka won that battle too at 55% offensive rebound, to 48% for LS. To give you an idea what the average is in the NBA it was 26.8% in 2023. So, both teams were quite generous to the other side. And if they continue this route they will be sidelined in March. During the six possession streak the Cougars outscored the visitors 13-7. Then the Minnetonka defense closed down more space and the feast turned to famine for ten straight possessions. Minnetonka added 15 to their totals at that point to make it 32-21. The half closed with a 37-25 Minnetonka advantage. The game didn’t alter much in the second half.
LS relied more on the long ball than not with nine conversions to six. That came at a price at the free throw line when they only had eight attempts. They got to the line once every 38.62 touches. Minnetonka was a more frequent visitor at that charity stripe at 26.36 touches. Still that pales in comparison to Hopkins which got theirs against Eden Prairie last Friday at the rate of 11.14 touches showing more aggressive getting to the paint.
As for the standard pp100s Minnetonka had a healthy 112.7 with a floor % of over 50%. Four of the five starters were at 100 pp100 or over. The fifth checked in with a respectable 94. Not one player joined the exclusive 31 Club. Minnetonka was closer to joining with four of their five starters north of 21. The best 31 Club score LS could muster was less than half that total at 14.
The Skippers are 9-2 now in non-conference action; 0-2 in the Mighty Lake. Minnetonka is 2-0 against the South Suburban (both victims live in Lakeville). The Cougars are now 5-4 in non-con action. They are 0-2 against the Mighty Lake and 4-4 in the South Suburban.
