2025 Badminton Poll #1

We are now over a week into the 2025 badminton season. So far, I have attended four matches, two involving two brand new programs: Minnetonka and Park Center. That brings the total schools involved up to 30. It sounds like there could be more on the way with other students at other schools asking about how to start a program. With eight charted that means I have 22 more to go. Not every school has started their season. I have yet to see results from seven schools, but it is early yet. That means I have seen 26.7% of the schools. Another chunk will be taken off the lists this week. So far, I have seen five of the nine Suburban schools, a catchall grouping, not a formal conference. The Lake Conference now has three members involved, with Edina, Eden Prairie being joined by Minnetonka.

The big event this week will be the Edina Invitational. Eight schools will meet and there will be champions at each flight (first singles, second singles, etc.). All players stay in their flight, and it is double elimination meaning a player could battle back after stumbling earlier in the day. There will be well over 100 matches on Tuesday. It is a good dry run for the individual state tournament also to be held at Edina in May. The only difference is that the thirds and fourths will not be involved in the individual portion of the state.

STANDINGS

There are two conferences that operate fully (Minneapolis and St. Paul). I use the Suburban and Charters/privates listing to keep track of results. The schools do not all face each other like the city conferences.  I am adding the singles and doubles won and lost for each school as well this year indicating where their strength may lie. At this point both Camden (which used to be known as Patrick Henry) and Edina have not lost at any flight. Harding has been unblemished at singles. Eden Prairie and Tartan have yet to lose at doubles.
