2025 Season Recap; Streaks; Standings; Leaderboards; & State Tournament Fun Facts

WINNING STREAK

Johnson holds the top honors with a 75 dual match winning streak stretching across four seasons 2016 to 2019. Washington was the last to beat them on April 12, 2016 and the Eagles ended the streak with a 4-3 victory on May 3, 2019.

Edina’s current total is 44 over the past three seasons. They would need more than two undefeated seasons to match the Governors. The Hornets could move to second with four more wins to start 2026.

MORE STATE TOURNAMENT FUN FACTS

SINGLES

In the first round two players lost the first set and came back to win. Those were the only three set matches in the first round.

In the second round again two players lost in the first set and came back to win. There were four three set matches in round two.

The third or Sweet 16 Round proved to be the tightest round of all with five of the eight matches going to three sets. The average margin was also the tightest with 4.05. Once again two players lost in the first set that would continue on to win the match.

The next first set losses and comebacks came in the third place and championship. The longest point total in any singles match came in the third set of the championship with Su Meh winning 26-24 over Gaozhia Vue. This was the longest third set championship match in history.

This was the third time in tournament history where a Governor beat a Knight in the final. The other years were 2018 when Nou Chee Yang beat Jumy Miko and then 2009 when Olamide Fadahunsi beat Stephanie King. Both of those matches were two sets.

The average scores for sets
1: 20.6 to 13.5, two sets went to extra points
2: 20.8 to 12.2, two sets went to extra points
3: 21.5 to 16.8, two sets went to extra points.

DOUBLES

There were four players that lost the first set and won, three of them came in the second round.

13 matches went to three sets. Highland Park’s Alice Verbrugge & Violet Solem Valentine did it twice: in the quarterfinals over Como Park’s Asta Ket & Galoee Yang and then in the third place match over Edina’s Bergen Pickett & Juman Alkhatib. Pickett & Alkhatib were 1-2 in three set matches.

The longest set of the day was with Humboldt’s Nadine Mutesi & Lwe Paw topping Eden Prairie’s Akshay Balamurali and Thanvi Chada 25-23 in the third set of round one.

For the first time (at least from 2005 on) neither Johnson or Harding made the quarterfinals in the doubles. For the past seven tournaments Johnson has made it to the finals.

This also marked the first all suburban final in doubles.
