Badminton Out & About: Humboldt v Tartan March 26, 2026

HUMBOLDT 5, TARTAN 2

Humboldt traveled to Tartan and topped the Titans 5-2. The Hawks swept the singles and added first doubles to their victory column. The Hawks overwhelmed Tartan in the singles holding the hosts to single digits in five of the eight sets. Fourth singles proved to be the tightest contest in the singles department with Humboldt’s Shae Paw Wah scoring exact 21-17 scores. Tartan had the advantages in doubles but the margins were much tighter. Humboldt’s first doubles pair of Lwe Paw and Way Ber Paw had the only set win that went to extra points. They won the first set of their match with Pearl and Evylynn 22-20.

Humboldt evens their mark at 3-3 on the young season. Tartan is now 1-1 on the year. They beat Kennedy on Wednesday 4-3. They stopped a two game losing streak this week where they fell by identical 4-3 marks to Johnson and Highland Park.

Both squads have new coaches. Jesse Day has replaced long time coach Bill Norberg at Humboldt and Kelly Vang replaces David Lu who has moved to Wayzata. This week I charted new coaches at Como Park, Edina, Community School of Excellence and these two. That makes seven of the 13 new coaches.

If you have been to Tartan for matches they are now in their third court system. The first year they were in the old main gym. Then there was an addition with the new main competition court the site of badminton with six courts. The construction is finally over and they are in an additional space with room for eight courts.
