THE REAR VIEW MIRROR
Last week I was able to get out to matches on all four days. My focus has been on the new coach contingent. I was able to chart five of the new coaches this week, including the first match ever for Community School of Excellence, one of the two new programs this season which bumps the total team count to 32. The teams with new coaches included (besides CSoE) Edina, Como Park, Humboldt and Tartan. That means I have six more new coaches to see. The only exception to the new coach brigade was in Minneapolis with Southwest and Washburn on Monday.
The Edina v Como Park match up pitted two conference champs from last year. The Hornets are out to defend their state title for the fourth consecutive year.
Some milestones this week included the first sweep win in program history for Eagle Ridge with their win over CSoE on Wednesday. Newcomer Wayzata, after a pair of losses, earned their first win with a 4-3 win at home over Camden on Thursday. That was the Patriots’ first loss of the year. Also falling from the unbeaten ranks was another Minneapolis team on the road: Roosevelt fell to Math & Science the same day.
31 of the 32 teams have taken the courts so far this season. Fridley has yet to play (and are not scheduled this week).
THE ROAD AHEAD
Edina has the longest winning streak going now at 46 after Wednesday’s victory over newcomer Wayzata. One more win and they will tie Johnson for the second longest winning streak. The Governors also own the longest win streak with 75 wins from 2016 to 2019. Humboldt on Monday at home will have the first crack at trying to stop that streak. The Hornets would move to 48 wins with that win and on April first with Park Center paying a visit.
The St. Paul City Conference is due to begin their second round of the schedule this week and the highlight will be unbeaten and number 1 Harding traveling to Johnson on Thursday, April 2. The Knights won round one 5-2 in the season opener.
Minneapolis is off this week with rolling spring break.

I included second singles and doubles in this list because the possibility exists that they could make the final eight at state. The state singles has always been won by a first singles player, but that has not always been the case in doubles. Johnson’s second doubles won once.
No third singles/doubles or fourth singles are listed because they will not be involved in the postseason (unless there is an injury).

RANKINGS
Six teams joined the fray this past week making 31 of the 32 teams eligible for the lists below. Five of these 31 teams are undefeated with one each from the city schools and three on the suburban side. Harding and Washburn are unbeaten in their respective cities. They have yet to venture outside the city confines. Edina and Eden Prairie have faced opponents from St. Paul and the suburbs. Burnsville is the fifth unbeaten team, and they have only played one contest against another suburban team.
When will Harding see Edina? Not during the regular season. The usual match up was not on the schedule this season. If they meet it will be in the post-season.

INDIVIDUALS
The undefeated roster has slimmed down from the first poll. With St. Paul teams beating up on each other, the only one left standing in the first singles position is Gao Zhia Vue of Harding with wins over Amanda Her and Niko Solheid. Others in the first singles position without a loss include Isabel Chen of Minnetonka; Jenny from Community of Peace and Sophia Mitchell of Roosevelt. Only players with more than one match are considered.
Tsuki Solheid of Como Park and Amelia Her of Johnson both do not have a loss yet at the second singles position (the reason for the 2 behind the school’s name). They are due to face each other on Tuesday when the Cougars and Governors tangle so one will leave that position.
