Badminton Out & About: Johnson vs Burnsville 4.25.2017

JOHNSON 7, BURNSVILLE 0

#1 Johnson swept Burnsville on the road Tuesday. The Blaze were able to take a set at second doubles in the first set. The rest of the time the Governors picked up double digit margins to the tune of twelve of the 14 set wins. The margin in singles was 14.38 points per set. Even with the one Burnsville set win the doubles margins favored Johnson 8.714. Burnsville did miss some regulars in their line up which caused some line up adjustments.

I do have to report on the traffic. It was miserable going to and going home. It took over one hour to return home thanks to rain, rush hour, accidents and construction. It looks like I will have to get used to that commute. Tomorrow Burnsville is hosting a triangular with Eden Prairie and Harding.

FIRST SINGLES

khao nou LOR 2, megan PETERSON 0
(21-10, 21-6)

#1 singles player Khao Nou Lor demonstrated why she holds that position with a sweep of Megan Peterson. Lor sided out each & every time on Peterson’s 16 serves. Peterson didn’t help her cause with five service errors. With 16 side outs that meant Lor prevented any runs or service points from Peterson. Lor controlled winners 24-8 with clears going for eight of her winners. Looking at placement Lor won out in seven of the nine areas with Peterson getting the most winners in the front left slot.

The first set was the most competitive. If we eliminate the opening run of four and closing run of five, Lor’s advantage shrinks to 12-10. Peterson did string together three straight side outs against Lor, but never got any traction on her service. In six of the ten possibilities in the first set Lor ended the point on the return—three on soft drives, two on clears and one smash. Lor did have 14 winners in this set.

In set two Lor had five runs compared to the two she had in the first set. This set Peterson missed serve four of her six attempts. After two services by Lor, the Governor was up 9-1. Lor only had 10 winners in this set, the leader came on clears with four.
