BURNSVILLE TRIANGULAR #1

Burnsville hosted Harding and Eden Prairie in a triangular on Wednesday. This is the final edition.

HARDING 4, BURNSVILLE 3

There was a clear delineation here with the Knights taking all four singles and the Blaze taking all three doubles. Doubles were more contentious with three sets decided by two points and second doubles going three before falling to Sarah Leahy and Greta Donnelly.

Jumy Miko moved up from second singles as Chunjai Xiong moved to a first doubles slot. The result was a win for Miko over Megan Peterson. Errors were the difference in this match with Miko having a +10 advantage. Miko led 12-3 in the first set after a run of seven. Peterson had a 14-9 lead in the second set. A four point run by Miko put her back in the contest. Miko was able to squeeze runs off her last two services as she finished with a 12-3 run.

HARDING 4, EDEN PRAIRIE 3

Here the Knights took the doubles in a turnabout from the first contest, and added fourth singles for their win. That meant Ester was 2-0 on the day. EP grabbed the first three singles. Two matches went to three sets with both teams picking up a win. The match came down to third doubles with the score 3-3. Angie & Abby rallied from an 18-16 deficit in the third set for the win. Two sets in that critical third doubles match were decided by two points.

Ashley Nelson opened with had four smashes in her first seven points establishing a power game as she knocked off Jumy Miko. Nelson had to hang on to the win in both sets however. Nelson led 11-5 in the first set. Miko closed to 17-15 after a run of four. Nelson reverted back to her power game for the close. The second set was similar in that Nelson led 11-4. Miko closed the gap with five straight (kicked off with a missed serve) to 11-9. The margins remained tight after that. A two stroke drop ended the match.

EDEN PRAIRIE 5, BURNSVILLE 2

Visiting Eden Prairie swept the singles and added third doubles for their win over the Blaze. The only three set match came at fourth singles and that went to extra points before Makayla Haddorf ended the night with a win. The first three singles for EP ended the day 2-0. The first two doubles teams for Burnsville also were 2-0.

Ashley Nelson won her second contest of the day with a two set win over Megan Peterson. Again Nelson got off to a fast start, but had to hold on for the win. In the first set Nelson strung together six straight to build a 10-3 lead. She even pushed it out to 17-7. Peterson stormed back with an 11-2 surge to trail 19-18 and then held off set point three times and tied it up at 21. A four stroke drop gave Nelson the serve and a three stroke smash gave her an extra point win 23-21. Again Nelson raced off to an early lead at 11-4. Once again Peterson climbed back in the game with a run of four to close to 18-17. Nelson relied on her power game at that point and a twelve stroke smash gave her the bird again. She then used a seven stroke smash to put her on the verge. Six of Nelson’s 13 winners in the final set came on a smash.
