GBB Out & About: 3 games from St. Cloud Tech

ST. CLOUD TECH TOURNAMENT

*Or should I say 2.5 games

It was back on the court after the four day Christmas lay off and what better way to work off those sugary cookies than with a holiday tournament? I opted for St. Cloud Tech today to see four different teams. The hope was to wrap up before 6 pm so I could hightail it over to Cambridge-Isanti, an hour away, to chart the Stillwater game (not included in the coverage today). Unfortunately the day started 20 minutes behind schedule thanks to an overtime game between Kennedy & Tech (Kennedy won). That meant my chance to see the entire Sauk Rapids v Pine City game went up in smoke. That was the nail biter of the day with SR edging out PC 66-65. I left in the middle of the second half and did make it with about 9 minutes to spare at Cambridge.

It looked like teams were off for four days to start with. The Central Lakes teams in particular struggled (except for Sauk Rapids). Both the host Tech Tigers and Sartell could not get into the 50s in pp100. Shooting % was low across the board in the first two games with Kennedy just getting their nose over 42%. The rest of the three teams were sub 30%. In the last game I charted at SCT both teams were getting the shots they desired. PC was at 48%, SRR an impressive 56%.

This is not a win & move on tournament. It is a prescheduled event. The Central Lakes teams will not play each other. The fourth contest included Totino-Grace v Rocori.

St. Cloud Tech is building a new high school to be ready in 2019. It will be off of MN 15 south of town (but north of 94).

With SCT now off the list I have seen every team in section 8AAAA. After today I have 24 teams left to chart in AAAA. Overall in the race for 100, I have 52 teams to go with 9 weeks left of the regular season. Tomorrow I should be able to whittle off four more.

GAME 2: Mahtomedi 47, Sartell-St. Stephen 25

GAME 3: Sauk Rapids-Rice 44, Pine City 42 (when I left with 11:30 left in the game)
