GBB Out & About: Providence v Bloomington Jefferson 1.4.2018

PROVIDENCE 44, BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON 35 OVERTIME

For the fourth time this year (or is it the 3.5 time) I charted Providence. As recently as Saturday the Lions were under the microscope. They hosted Jefferson, a team I was after to add to my AAAA collection.

Whether it was a defensive struggle, or not is one of semantics. The struggles did take place on offense. Providence started off the game with four points in their first two possessions and it seemed that there was going to be some high scoring action.  That was a false reading. It was only 13-12 (in favor of Jefferson) at the break. I was thinking that 40 could be a possibility by the end of the game. I was wrong. It was tied at 33 at the end of regulation. Jefferson, now under the direction of former Jordan coach Paul Lambrecht, was up 29-24 with four minutes remaining in regulation. after trey from Claire Bannigan. The Lions first closed the gap with a lay up off the press and then an &1 on a second chancer by 6-2 sophomore reserve Lauren Kettler. Jefferson would inch forward, but 5-2 sophomore guard Hailey Hohenecker delivered two driving lay ups to knot the score, the last coming under nine seconds left. In overtime Providence roared getting the first points on a trey from Madeline Anderson, her only points of the night. Jefferson, who struggled all night with their shooting—-the combined totals of free throws, 2s and 3s checked in at 78 (33-33-12)—-miss fired beyond the arc on their first couple chances. Providence, a 113 combined (59-39-15), scored six straight times in the extra session to seal the victory.

There are now 14 teams left in AAAA I haven’t charted, I have completed 78% of that class. I completed section 2AAAA now, the second section finished.

Providence is now 5-7 and is 2-0 in overtime games. Jefferson is on the flip side at 7-5.

This is the pp100 for Providence in the games I have charted so far:

Team Winona Cotter Mound-Westonka Farmington Jefferson
Pp100 60.7 90.3 57.8 60.3

As you can see Providence is hanging around 60 normally. The outlier is Mound.
