Badminton Out & About: Kennedy vs Hmong Academy 5.2.2017

KENNEDY 5, HMONG ACADEMY 2

In a game with state seeding implications, Kennedy took down Hmong Academy at home 5-2. Kennedy won all matches except at the third position in both singles and doubles. The third singles match was the only contest that went the distance.

Kennedy next test comes on Thursday at Burnsville with a triangular along with Edina.

This is the second time since Friday Hmong Academy has come under the microscope. They faced Como Park. The margins there in the singles was 2, today Kennedy pushed those margins to 6.33. Como dominated the doubles side of the ledger with an 11.67. It was about 10 points less today with Kennedy squeaking out the victory there.

One final note: both coaches faced off against each other late. Hmong Academy coach Mai Vue Xiong, despite wearing sandals and a dress, edged out Kennedy coach Todd Kennedy 15-14. He got rid of his shoes to keep the game on a level playing field.

#2 Chusang Nhasang held Koussy Yang to two service points and sided out at an 83% clip in the two set win. Nhasang used the power game in the first set with four smashes and more action toward the back line. She was also the recipient of 12 hitting errors by Yang. In the second set Nhasang worked on the finesse game with five drops and four soft drives going for winners. In each set Nhasang picked up a head of steam with a mega run of nine (15-3 in set one, 12-3 in set two). Nhasang also self corrected on her errors, which were few in number. Compared to last Friday, Yang strung out the points with longer rallies going from 3.33 to 5. She also cut back on the fast serve/receive points going from 23 total points to 9 today.
