GBB Out & About: Hibbing v Duluth East 2.15.2018

HIBBING 53, DULUTH EAST 22

Two northern teams met that featured the Blue (Jackets) and the Grey(hounds). It was visiting Hibbing that spoiled senior night at Duluth East with a running time victory. This game was somewhat close at the beginning, but one had the feeling the dam would burst soon. Hibbing led 7-4 with twelve minutes left in the first half. It was still 7-4 with nine minutes left. Then the dam burst. Hibbing finished the half with a 19-2 run. There was little doubt to the final outcome. At the 9:19 mark in the second half DE got over the single digit hump. Ten times this year the Greyhounds have been stuck in the 20s or lower. They got over the 20 mark on the last play of the game which was a 3 by senior Lily Gerst. As a result DE scored more than Hibbing’s Abbey McDonald, who led all scorers with 20.

Hibbing is now 15-8 on the year. DE falls to 2-23

The whole point of this journey was one team and one team only: Hibbing. The Blue Jackets were #86 going into the game. That means there are now seven left standing. I have now charted 67% of the AAA teams.

Hibbing does not start a senior. They also start three players 6-0 or bigger.
