WBB Signing: Theis to St. Cloud State

Maple Grove High School senior forward, Katrina Theis, has accepted Coach Lori Fish’s offer to play basketball and further her education at St. Cloud State University.  She will join the Huskies program in the Fall of 2018.

Theis, is a 3 year letter winner at Maple Grove, and until this week was one of the most talented unsigned seniors in the state of Minnesota. While Theis had interest and opportunities to play at other schools, she decided that St. Cloud State was the best fit for her and for her family.

“The players and the coaching staff are amazing and I really see myself fitting in well there.  I also like that there are a lot of tools in place there to help me be successful academically.” Theis commented.

Katrina earned Northwest Suburban All-Conference as a junior and a senior.  She was the team’s second leading scorer and leading rebounder for the past two seasons.  Katrina scored 462 points this season, which was the 3rd best scoring season in school history.  She is a versatile player who can dominate on the block and defend any position on the floor.  Her dynamic play and tremendous leadership helped lead the Crimson to a 25-7 record this season, a Section 8AAAA Championship, and a trip to the 2018 Minnesota Girls Basketball State Tournament. It was the school’s first trip there since 2011.

“It has been so much fun watching Katrina grow as a person and a player over the past few seasons,” Coach Mark Cook commented.  “Her athleticism has always been her strength, but to see her basketball skill come as far as it has makes her a truly special find for St. Cloud.  I am so excited for her and for her family.  She has worked so hard and just wanted someone at that level to give her a shot.  I really believe that she is going to leave a lot of coaches wishing they would have recruited her earlier.  She is a special talent.”

The St. Cloud State Huskies finished 17-10 this season and 3rd place in the NSIC North Division.  St. Cloud State University is an NCAA Division II school located in St. Cloud, MN and competes in the 14 team Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference of which they are a top contender year after year.
