SOUTHWEST 6, EDISON 1
In a return to Minneapolis Conference action, host Southwest topped Edison 6-1. Sagal Hussein of Edison prevented the sweep with the final match to come in at second singles. There were two matches that went the distance with each team picking up a win. Only one set was decided by two points and that was also the only set to go to extra points. The Laker third doubles pair of Quinn Moore and Mia Dusek took the second set 22-20. The Lakers held Edison to single digits in five of the nine sets. Doubles proved to be more competitive with the Lakers holding the Tommies to one single digit set. The Lakers Alysa Riebe and Paige Simmons produced the widest victory margin with 13.5. The tightest win came at second singles with Sagal Hussein’s margin 1.0.
With Southwest now charted that leave three teams that remain to be seen. All be charted after Thursday.

FIRST SINGLES
Becca MURPHY 2, Der HER 0
(21-8, 21-9)
Power was the name of the game for Southwest’s Becca Murphy. With the bird hanging up in the air like the moon, Murphy smashed her way to a two set win. The Laker delivered 14 smashes for winners. Besides the power game, Murphy’s side out game silenced Der’s offense. The Tommie was shut out on service points in the second set as Murphy was a perfect nine for nine on side outs. For the night Murphy only allowed two points. Winners were also hard to come by for Der who picked up four in the two sets.
Murphy, after a hitting error, scored the next five points of which three came on the smash. The capstone came on Murphy’s seventh service where she closed out the set with the final seven points, with the smash delivering three. Runs were harder to come by in the second set. Murphy created separation with her first three point run (9-4) with the last two points smashes. The late game surge reappeared in this set with a Murphy run of six. Missed serves stopped the Lakers’ serve three times in this set, all missing just wide on the midcourt side.
