JOHNSON 7, HARDING 0
#1 Johnson took the brooms to traditional East side rival #3 Harding at home Wednesday. This was the second win over the Knights this year for the three time defending state champs. The Governors did not lose a set all day. The sweep only provided one double digit set—-and that came at third doubles, first set. The sweep also only provided one tight set (compared to yesterday’s squeakfest). Third singles first set was the only three point margin or less. In four of the wins, Johnson lowered the points allowed. Harding increased their totals three times.

FIRST SINGLES
Nou Chee YANG 2, Jumy MIKO 0
(21-14, 21-16)
#1 Nou Chee Yang topped #2 Jumy Miko with rallies in both sets. The interesting thing in this match was Miko held the lead in both sets at 11-8. Yang, in points after 11, won convincingly 26-8. Miko was a fast starter going 22-16. Yang prevailed in winners by a margin of 17. Yang also contributed more errors. Another interesting factoid was neither player had any errors deep. Yang’s mistakes tended to be wide; Miko’s mistakes found the net. Winner location differed for both: Yang exploited the right side; Miko took advantage of the left side.
In set one Miko scored on her first three services (neither player slammed the door on the other’s serves as both sided out sub .500). That start helped Miko to the 11-8 lead. Yang, who racked up 18 winners in the first set, ran off four straight to take the lead, all on winners. Perhaps the key point in the first set was a 14 stroke back hand drive by Yang (16-14). That initiated a six point run to 21.
Miko again came out fast with an 8-3 lead on the strength of two runs of five and three. The match turned to Yang after a missed serve at 13-10 by Miko. Yang rattled off six more after that (17-13). Yang refused to give up on birds several times getting to drops and keeping the bird in the air. Yang also blocked several of Miko’s attacks. They didn’t fall for points often, but keeping the action going helped Miko win the longer points. She was 19-5 in five strokes or more on the day.
