FIRST SINGLES
Rachel WATERMAN 2, Yan Mei YUAN 0
(21-9, 21-10)
Rachel Waterman sided out almost at 90 percent in defeating Yan Mei Yuan. This was Yuan’s second straight match at first singles. Missed serves added up for Yuan. She opened the match with a deep serve and then missed her third attempt. By the time she got to serve again Waterman was up 12-2. Serving wasn’t as fatal in the second set, but the margins were similar. Waterman used a seven point run to lead 9-2. Yuan did not get a run in either set.

EDINA 6, KENNEDY 1
The Hornets buzzed the Eagles, but singles were razor thin. Less than a point per set separated the two teams. Kennedy’s only win came at second singles where Yan Mei Yuan won in two sets. Yuan was at first singles in the Burnsville match. The other three matches in singles went the distance. A change in ten points would have resulted in a 4-3 Kennedy win. The Edina doubles did not lose a set.

FIRST SINGLES
Mia COMA 2, Vichheka CHY 1 (18-21, 21-13, 21-18)*
Counting. In the heat of the battle players lose track. Players lose track with long rallies. Players lose track with rushed action. This was the case here. This was the most compelling match of the day. Vichheka Chy moved back to the #1 spot for Kennedy.
In the battle of the Cs I had the first set all tied at 21. At some point in the middle of the first set both players got off. The second set was on the money. The third set was off one—I had 22-18.
In set one Chy led 17-14 when four straight put Coma up 18-17. I was baffled when they stopped at 21 all. Set three had twists and turns. Chy led 10-5. Coma was able to score on four services and inched ahead 15-14. Coma closed out the match with the final three points.

BURNSVILLE 4, EDINA 3
There were two separate worlds with Burnsville sweeping the singles with a healthy 8.5 margin. Edina’s doubles also swept, but the margins were narrower with 4.5. The Hornets were pushed at first and third doubles which went three sets. Edina, if there was a shift of six points at first singles, would have prevailed 4-3.
