EDINA 6, EDEN PRAIRIE 1
#8 Edina didn’t treat host Eden Prairie well in a 6-1 victory. #7 EP only won at first singles and, by the way, that was their only regular in the singles line up. The doubles were fully staffed and the Hornets swept all in two sets but the second set in first singles was pushed to extra points. Lindsey Lundberg and Shay Reger also had the most competive match of the day with the combined margin being 3 points. Edina’s Charlotte Everist at fourth singles had the largest spread of the winners with 16 points per set.

FIRST SINGLES
Ashley NELSON 2, Mia COMA 0
(21-16, 21-17)
Ashley Nelson returned from a injury that kept her out of action the past few weeks and beat Mia Coma in two. The side out game, the advantage on winners combined with fast starts in both sets set Nelson apart. Nelson more than doubled Coma with 29 winners compared to 13 for Nelson.
Nelson didn’t lose any of her power when she was off. She opened with three straight smashes to build an early lead. The Eagle racked up ten points with her smash. Nelson used a wicked back hand drive later that was featured in three of four points on the way to a healthy 14-4 lead. On her way to 18 winners in the first set, Nelson was also generous. She had five straight hitting errors to put Coma back in the contest at 14-9. Four of those errors sailed wide. After a side out smash, Coma continued her comeback with a four point run to make it 15-13. An eight point clear ended the threat and Nelson traded points the rest of the way.
Nelson held sway early again in the second set holding Coma scoreless on three straight services while squeezing a point on four of her first five services. At the midway point the EP senior led 11-5. Just like in the first set Coma rallied. She did get to within two at 18-16, but a clear cleared up the situation. Speaking of clears Nelson had eight of her winners in the back line, while Coma was shut out in that category. Coma’s best weapon on the day was the soft drive worthy of five points.
