SATURDAY TWO-FER
Yesterday (I didn’t write right away last night) I was out to chart two
games. The window availability dictated which games to see. The theme of the day was directions & “Falls.” You can also add in a dash of Purple. That color ended up 1-1 on the day. Hosts were victorious both times. Two more AAAA teams were ticked off the box leaving three left for the complete set of 64. Only one top 100 teams was checked off the list.
MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST 64, DULUTH EAST 46
In a big city battle it was Twin City host Minneapolis Southwest stopping their visitors from the Twin Ports, Duluth East, 64-46. Halfway through the first half in this contest DE led 24-14. Two things changed the complexion of this game: fouls to Ava White, the DE center, and the Lakers started to head up from long distance. Virginia Johnson off the bench connected a 3 from the right side which started a 24-9 finish to the half. SW made eight 3s for the game.

TRENCH PLAYER: Josephine Igherighe of SW with 12 points, a pp100 of 171.4 and a 31 Club score of 25. The freshman point guard only missed one field goal and was 2/2 at the ft line, 2/3 for 2s; and 2/2 on 3s.
FERGUS FALLS 59, LITTLE FALLS 15
Once upon a time these 8AAA foes were conference rivals, but Little Falls left for the Granite Ridge a few years back. There was no doubt who was going to win the night cap of the boys/girls doubleheader. This could also be a preview of a quarterfinal match up. The Otters had a +17 in the turnover differential and converted 11/14 layup opportunities, which was enough for victory. Not everything was ideal for FF however. Senior post Lily Pearson left the game early with an injury. It was unclear to me what type of injury it was, but she was helped to the bench.
