GBB Out & About: 2 Monday Dakota County/3AAA Games 2.17.2020

Saturday it was a two-fer in Hennepin County. Tonight was a two-fer in Dakota County (& 3AAA), but with a twist—–I only stayed for a half of the first game. The battle plan was to hit the second half of the second game, which according to my GPS was 11 minutes away. Thanks to the dump of snow tonight that increased to 15 minutes. That weather related travel problem constricted my time to a little over nine minutes—-the fourth quarter if you will. It was going to be a high dive in a glass of water. I missed. By the time I got to the second game it was over in all but for time.

What was the rationale for the split viewing? There would be no chance to chart both St. Croix Lutheran and Henry Sibley, both AAA teams, on any other day. In a sense, I lucked out they were both playing nearby. All four teams are in the northern portion of Dakota County. All four are also in 3AAA. The results tonight point to Simley coming out of 3AAA and reaching the big stage.

With this double dip I have now six teams left on the QRF scale. The only multiple game days will now be at one site.

ST. CROIX LUTHERAN 74, VISITATION 45

St. Croix Lutheran was the higher QRF team and that is where I started tonight. Technically the game was at Visitation. The big takeaway was the scintillating shooting of eighth grade guard Laura Hauge who racked up an impressive 21 points at half on 7/9 shooting. At least two, perhaps three of those triples could have been counted as four pointers as they were not from downtown, but from the exurbs. Visitation knew she could pop, but was unable to put a blanket on her.

Stats below are from the first half only.

  ST. CROIX LUTHERAN VISITATION
POINTS 74 45
HALF 33 16
REBOUNDS/OFF 17/9 7/2
TURNOVERS 7 8

3FGA/% 17/52.94 6/0.00

PP100 137.5 66.7
TOP SCORER Laura Hauge 26 (21 at half) Olivia Johannes 17 (10 at half)

TRENCH PLAYER: Laura Hauge with 21 points, 233.3 pp100 (7/9 3 shooting helps explode that total); 24 in the 31 Club.

SIMLEY 87, HENRY SIBLEY 51

Hard to gauge a game when you wonder in with 9 minutes to go. The game was clearly in the Simley column in this Metro East match up. They were up by 32 when I entered (68-36). The Spartans didn’t reach running time until 50 seconds were left in the game and the deep bench was on the floor. The odd thing about this charting was the SeSe/CeCe connection for Henry Sibley. They did all the scoring when I charted. CeCe Bell led the Warriors with 13 points, but 10 came when I charted. SeSe Burks had seven when I charted, 11 for the game. That means the pair had 70.83% of their total points scored in the last nine minutes. Also of note was both teams were over the century mark in pp100. I doubt that was the case throughout this game—-at least for both teams.

Stats below are from nine minutes and change left in the game.

  SIMLEY HENRY SIBLEY
POINTS 87 51
POINTS last 9 minutes 19 17
REBOUNDS/OFF 11/5 9/3
TURNOVERS 2 1
2FGA/% 12/33.33 14/42.85
3FGA/% 4/75.00 3/33.33
FTA/% 4/50.00 2/100.00
PP100 111.8 106.2
TOP SCORER Sydney Stensgard 28 (8 in last 9 minutes) CeCe Bell 13 (10 in last 9 minutes)

TRENCH PLAYER: Sydney Stensgard with 28 points, 200 pp100 (2/3 from 3s) and a 12 in the 31 club. Clearly made the 31 club with 28 points leaving her three off. She had four d stops/distributions in the last nine. I am sure she had a few more in the first 27 minutes.
