WASHINGTON 5, CENTRAL 2
Central took the number one positions in both singles and doubles, but #2 Washington took the rest in a 5-2 win on the road Monday. There were adjustments to the Central line up with Claudia Feilmeyer & Xia Xiong moving up to second doubles from their normal spot at third. They almost pulled off an upset pushing Chloe Yang and Karia Chang to three sets, the only match to go three sets. The final margin in the third set in that match was the razor thin two points.

(21-10, 21-9)
#3 May Garvey swept Kalia Xiong in a fast game that just one more winner than error points. This game was interesting in that there wasn’t a lot of action for winners on the back line. Only three clears combined ended up as points. Most of the action hovered around the net. Both players traded drops with Garvey connecting on six compared to Xiong’s one.
Garvey took the first run of four in the first to take a 6-2 lead. Run number two, this time five points, pushed her out to a 15-5 margin. The first set provided more winners for Garvey with 13. That would drop to eight in the second set. For some unknown reason I had one more point for Garvey in this set. Garvey blew the set open with a huge run of 11 in the second set (13-2). Three of the first four points in that run came on drops, two to the racquet side. Five of the last six points in that initial run came on Xiong errors. Three came on the second stroke indicating an issue with the return.
