Washburn’s McKinley Helland moved to 2-0 on the young season with a quick sweep of Southwest’s Carla. Helland has yet to lose a set this season. Carla last week was the third singles. The second set only four minutes and twenty seconds to wrap up.
It didn’t start that way. Carla opened the first set with an ace and then a hitting error by Helland put her in the hole 2-0. Four straight points quickly got her out of that predicament as she had five runs out of her six services in that set. She had two monster runs in the second set opening with eight straight and closing with twelve.
Helland had a triple double in winners with eleven drives and ten each in drops and smashes. 68% of Helland’s winners landed on the right side of the court. Helland did not allow a run in either set.
